Inter defender Milan Skriniar is glad to have helped his team keep a clean sheet against Shakhtar Donetsk in the Champions League yesterday, but still not quite sure how he made one particular defensive block.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the Slovak defender gave his reaction after a match in which he had earned the Man of the Match award with his defensive display.

Skriniar has been one of the Nerazzurri’s best performers this season, and he showed once again why he is considered such an important player at his club when he made several vital interventions to preserve a point for his team.

One block in particular, a last-ditch tackle to keep Shakhtar forward from Pedrinho, really caught the eye, capping off a strong display with a feat of defending which stopped what appeared to be an almost certain goal for the Ukrainians.

Skriniar said of a vital block “I don’t even know how I got there, I threw myself in the middle and I’m glad that ball didn’t go into the goal. I’m happy not to have conceded a goal but disappointed about the lack of a victory.”

And on what needs to be done in order to qualify for the knockout rounds, he said “We have to score some goals because without them it is difficult to win games.”
