Inter defender Milan Skriniar still believes that the Nerazzurri have a good chance of qualifying for the knockout rounds despite only managing a draw against Shakhtar Donetsk yesterday.

Speaking to Inter TV after the match, the Slovenian gave the view that his side gave a good performance against a tough opponent, and that they have what it takes to get out of their Champions League group.

Inter and Shakhtar sit joint bottom of their Champions League group on points with the two teams having to settle for a point each after a balanced encounter in Ukraine.

Unlike in Serie A where they have been flying high on the back of an excellent goal return, the Nerazzurri have now gone two matches without scoring in Europe’s top competition.

However, the performances have been encouraging and Skriniar believes that if his team can keep working and playing as they have been that they can get to the knockout rounds this season.

“Of course there is disappointment,” Skriniar said, “we wanted these three points, we wanted to win the game, but against this opponent it was not easy. We knew it wouldn’t be. Surely in the attacking phase we could have done something more.”

He went on, “We have not yet scored in the Champions League, unfortunately, but everything is still open and we are optimistic for the next matches. They have created problems for us with their possession, as we expected. Now we too are strong in this respect, so we too created problems. Unfortunately we didn’t take advantage of the chances that fell to us.”

He went on that “It was also important not to lose because they too had chances. We have to fix the offensive phase where we can certainly do better.”
