Inter midfielder Matias Vecino believes that the Nerazzurri can begin to find the back of the net in the Champions League if they continue playing as they have been doing.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the Uruguayan gave the view that the Nerazzurri had not gotten the result they wanted when they drew with Shakhtar Donetsk yesterday, but that they have the right qualities to start winning.

Inter have only one point after their first two matches in the Champions League group stage, and their main problem looks to have been scoring goals.

The team have not been without chances, with several good opportunities falling to the team’s strikers across their matches against Real Madrid and Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, as of yet they have not managed to turn their performances in Europe’s top competition into three points, which they must find a way to do if they hope to get to the knockout rounds.

“We knew it would be a difficult match,” Vecino said of the Shakhtar clash, “they possess the ball very well and have very good players between the lines. We still created the opportunities to take the points home, we knew it would be very important for us.”

He went on, “It happens, that’s how it is in football. The important thing is to create chances, we have great strikers who sooner or later will stick it in the back of the net – they will start scoring again from the next one. Today we have not conceded goals, we need to improve.”

On whether the match was a point earned or two lost he said, “I’ll say two points lost, then we’ll see in the next four matchdays. We’ll have Skakhtar at home, I think it’s an advantage.”
