Inter midfielder Matias Vecino believes that his team played well in their Champions League group stage match with Shakhtar Donetsk despite only managing to come away with a draw.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the Uruguayan gave his immediate reaction to a match in which the Nerazzurri did not pile on the scoring chances as they have in recent chances but will regret a few good opportunities which they failed to find the back of the net from.

Inter had to share the points with Shakhtar after a match in which each side had some good moments but neither were able to find the decisive finish to swing the game in their favour.

Coming after a match in which the Nerazzurri knocked on the door but could not find a goal before succumbing to a last-minute defeat at the hands of Real Madrid, the draw against the Ukrainians leaves them sitting on a point after two matches.

For Simone Inzaghi’s men, the problem continues to be that they have struggled to turn good performances into results in Europe’s competition, but they will have to hope that they can continue to play as they have been.

Vecino characterized the match as a “Difficult game, they are very fast and make life difficult for you. There were clear opportunities to change the game in our favour, the kinds of moments that then change the dynamics of the games.”

He went on, “Then they will have to come and play in Milan. It is always an open match against them, they show very offensive football. It’s a pity we didn’t score given the many clear opportunities.”

The midfielder concluded, “I try to make my contribution, continuity is essential for every player. I want to make my contribution to the team.”
