Inter-linked Napoli captain Lorenzo Insigne is not focusing on his contract talks with his current club, and wants to keep his attention on the pitch for the season.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the 30-year-old explained that he will let his agent deal with his contract, which currently runs out next summer.

Insigne’s deal with the Partenopei is set to expire at the end of June 2022 and talks over an extension are reported to have stalled, with the player currently asking for more money than his club are willing to offer.

The situation has led to the interest of a number of clubs, with the Nerazzurri among the teams to have made approaches about potentially bringing the winger in over the summer.

In the end Insigne stayed at his current club during the summer transfer window, but with his contract running down he could still leave in January should Napoli wish to get a fee for him while they can, or depart on a free transfer next summer with the Nerazzurri among the most strongly-linked destinations.

For his part, Insigne is not focused on the situation, stating that “I only think about playing and about the pitch. My agent takes care of the other issues. I always put the team before myself, I always work hard and I always arrive with a smile.”

“I’m not thinking about the contract,” he went on, “there’s time to discuss it with the club. My agent will take care of it with the club, I still have one year.”
