Former Inter defender Fabio Galante believes that the Neraazurri did well to bring in Edin Dzeko following the departure of Romelu Lukaku in the summer.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Tuttomercatoweb, Galante gave the view that Dzeko has performed very well since his summer arrival from Roma and that his qualities can be important to the Nerazzurri even as they lose the presence of Lukaku.

Lukaku’s shock sale to Chelsea left the Nerazzurri needing to rethink their attack ahead of this season, and in the end they turned to a long-term target in the form of Dzeko.

The Bosnian had established a reputation as a reliable option with the Giallorossi, and it was hoped that he could come into Simone Inzaghi’s team and lead the line as he had in the Italian capital.

So far, Dzeko has managed a good goal return, with five goals in six Serie A matches and eight matches in all competitions, though he has also come in for some competition.

However, Galante doesn’t agree with this, stating that “I think that the criticism of Dzeko is exaggerated, especially for what he has done in recent years. He has always scored and seeing him live at the stadium, it scares the defenders to come up against him.”

“He is good in spaces, he heads goals and holds the ball up well,” he went on, “Inter directors did a great job bringing him to the club to replace Lukaku. Yes, the best replacement to sign was Dzeko. ”

Of comparisons to the departed Belgian he said, “It is not fair to make comparisons, they have different characteristics. Lukaku is certainly one of the strongest around but the Nerazzurri directors were not unprepared and replaced him well. He has scored five goals so far, he could have scored a couple more but the projection looks good.”
