Inter are in need of Lautaro Martinez picking up the slack that has been left by Romelu Lukaku if they are to progress in the Champions League this season, according to a report in the Italian print media.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Inter both need and were expecting Lautaro Martinez to be the primary goalscorer this season after Romelu Lukaku was sold to Chelsea for €115 million.

So far though, Edin Dzeko has more goals than him. The more concerning element of it all though is that Lautaro Martinez has not scored in the Champions League yet this season, and nor have any of his teammates.

It is integral to Inter’s hopes of progressing from the group stage that he starts to find the net in all competitions, rather than just in Serie A where he is comfortable.

There is still time for him to prove he can be the main man for Inter.
