Simone Inzaghi is still searching for a third player who can be viewed as untouchable in his midfield after Christian Eriksen became unavailable, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi clearly likes to have a very well defined starting eleven.

He has that in defence with Milan Skriniar, Alessandro Bastoni, and Stefan de Vrij, and he has two untouchable in midfield with Nicolo Barella and Marcelo Brozovic.

It is very likely that the player of choice to make up that midfield three was going to be Christian Eriksen but obviously since his cardiac arrest at Euro 2020 in the summer, he cannot be called upon.

That is why Hakan Calhanoglu currently has the role but he is not consistent enough to be counted on every match like the other two in midfield.

Other options include Arturo Vidal and Matias Vecino.
