The financial impact of finishing last in the Champions League group last season for Inter is becoming clear and the club does not want a repeat this season, according to a report in the Italian media.

As has been reported by Sole 24 Ore, by finishing bottom of their 2020/21 Champions League group Inter managed to miss out on a €22 million payment from UEFA which is what teams receive when they make the later round.

Even more money is earned for every round that the teams manage to progress. That is why it is particularly concerning for Inter that they only have one point from a possible six so far.

The Nerazzurri have drawn 0-0 with Shakhtar Donetsk on matchday two and they were beaten 1-0 at San Siro by Real Madrid on the opening night.

They now must beat FC Sheriff twice, as well as at least one other game against Real Madrid or Shakhtar.
