Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Cernevali has admitted that Beppe Marotta has expressed interest in the past for both Gianluca Scamacca and Giacomo Raspadori, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during an interview with Corriere dello Sport, Giovanni Carnevali explained that Beppe Marotta did speak to him about the two young Sassuolo strikers but the Neroverdi wanted to keep them as they value youth.

“He asked me about both Giacomo Raspadori and Gianluca Scamacca, but he didn’t make it. We want to focus on young people and for this, we have sold Francesco Caputo: now Giacomo and Gianluca will have more opportunities to show off.

“Our club does not need to sell at all costs and we carry out certain operations only when we deem it appropriate, also and above all taking into account the good of the team.”

Some believe that the friendship between the two CEO’s means that Inter have the best chance of signing Giacomo Raspadori next summer, but that does not appear to be the case.

“Anyone who thinks so makes a big mistake. We are two professionals and we want the good of our respective companies.

“This is why several negotiations between us in the past have been complicated: some we have closed, others we have not. He is a friend, but also an intelligent person who knows the laws of football.”

Giovanni Carnevali has admitted that foreign clubs have been observing the young striker, saying: “Given that he is comfortable with us now and we are not thinking of depriving ourselves of him, it seems to me that clubs have returned to focus on the Italian market and no longer want to let the valuable elements escape. But someone like Raspadori is also observed by foreign clubs.

“For Raspadori there was not only the request of Inter. Other clubs in Italy also took an interest but no names. I have already said enough talking about Marotta with whom we never got to speak about figures.”

Speaking about Saturday night’s match between Inter and Sassuolo, Giovanni Carnevali said: “Maybe Sassuolo could do a trick on the Nerazzurri. They have a strong squad and are clearly favourites, but we are able to play against anyone.

“We will challenge the team that has the Scudetto on their chest. It will be a great event with many people in the stands.

“I hope that soon the capacity of the stadiums will return to 100% because the spectacle of football is better with the fans.”

As for Inter’s Scudetto hopes, Giovanni Carnevali explained: “They are one of the most serious candidates. It seems to me that the championship this year is very balanced, but for me, it will be a fight until the end.”
