Legendary former AC Milan defender Alessandro Costacurta believes that Inter’s performances this season have shown that they can win the Scudetto but that they will still struggle in the Champions League.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia, the former defender gave the view that the Nerazzurri have the quality to contend at the top of the Serie A table, but that Europe’s top competition could be a different story.

Inter have managed to collected 17 points from 21 to open their Serie A campaign, and they look to have the form to go all the way and defend their Scudetto crown from last season.

In the Champions League, however, it looks to be a different story, with the very real risk that the team will miss out on the knockout rounds of the competition for the fourth season running.

Costacurta believes that this is where the Nerazzurri are at currently, stating that “What I see in the league seems to me to be enough to win the title again, but not to go very far in Europe.”

And on the idea that the Nerazzurri are suffering from fatigue, he contended that this is “An excuse that doesn’t seem right at the beginning of October.”
