Inter defender Federico Dimarco believes that his team have reason for optimism heading into the international break on the back of a comeback win against Sassuolo at the Mapei Stadium.

Speaking to InterTV after yesterday’s Serie A clash with the Neroverdi, Dimarco gave the view that Inter have already done well in their season so far and that yesterday’s win showed that they can keep going in this manner.

The Nerazzurri will have known that they faced a tough challenge when they travelled to Emilia-Romagna to face Alessio Dionisi’s men, and so it proved.

Coming off the back of a schedule that saw the team playing two matches per week between Serie A and the Champions League since the end of the last international break, the Nerazzurri struggled to get a foothold in a match which saw them go in at the interval deservedly facing a one-goal deficit.

However, in the second half they produced a needed comeback to take three points and maintain their undefeated start to the season in Serie A, and Dimarco believes that the entire sequence of matches shows that the team are where they want to be.

“It was certainly a difficult game,” the defender reflected, “we conceded a goal from a penalty, it can happen. But the important thing was that in the second half we entered the pitch differently and reacted immediately, and thank goodness we took home the three points because these are three very important points.”

“We knew that winning the last match before the international break was important, so we’re happy,” he went on.

Giving his overall assessment of Inter’s Serie A season thus far, Dimarco stated that “I think we are on the right track, we have not lost yet. We could have collected more points against Atalanta and Sampdoria but we are on the right path. We must continue to work now ahead of the match against Lazio.”
