Former Napoli midfielder Dario Marcolin believes that after making a strong impression on his debut for Inter, Hakan Calhanoglu has not shown enough in a Nerazzurri shirt.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster DAZN, the 49-year-old spoke about the midfielder’s performances since arriving from Milan in the summer and characterized them as “so-so” apart from his first match.

Calhanoglu announced himself as an Inter player with a goal and an assist in the first match of the season, showing what he’s capable of as he helped his team to an emphatic 4-0 win over Genoa.

However, in the matches since he has not looked to be at the same level, frequently looking like he wasn’t quite able to get things right as he has looked to drive the team forward with his passing but hasn’t always done so consistently.

Marcolin feels that the coach is trying to make the best use of the Turkish midfielder’s talents, but that so far the results have not been all that convincing.

“Inzaghi wants to build the game and forward moves for the attackers through him,” Marcolin said of Calhanoglu. “He did well in the first game, the other six so-so.”
