Legendary former Inter defender Beppe Bergomi believes that Edin Dzeko is showing the best version of himself at Inter since his summer arrival from Roma.

Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the former defender gave the view that the Bosnian has found the best elements of his game playing in this Inter team, highlighting his growing partnership with Lautaro Martinez.

Dzeko has established a strong reputation since coming to Italian football when he joined Roma from Manchester City in the summer of 2015, having been Capocannoniere with 29 goals in his second season with the Giallorossi.

However, even by the standards that he has already set, the 35-year-old has looked to be in excellent form since his switch to the Nerazzurri, and Bergomi believes that he is in the right surroundings to show all his best qualities.

On whether he expected this impact from the Bosnian, Bergomi stated, “Honestly yes. Maybe I wasn’t expecting so many goals but I was convinced he could have a good impact on Inter. I don’t know Edin personally but it is clear that he is an intelligent guy, a serious professional who knows how to get into the mechanisms of the team well.”

He went on, “In Inzaghi’s game his qualities can be best exploited. He needed a new stimulus. He found it and it shows.”

“His best year was with Spalletti in the 2016-17 season when he scored 29 goals in Serie A and ten in Europe,” Bergomi continued. “We are seeing today a beautiful version of Dzeko, not the best but he is still decisive. And a lot is also due to the close second striker.”

Of Dzeko’s partnership with Martinez he stated, “They have different features that fit together. They can still improve because sometimes they both come to play the ball, they could synchronize better.”

Bergomi concluded, “I think he can score a lot because he can take advantage of his height on set pieces. Inter have physicality and he is often able to get free and punish teams.”
