Former Inter striker Christian Vieri believes that the Nerazzurri’s squad depth is an important asset because it can help them cope with tiredness during a busy schedule.

Speaking on his Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, Vieri explained that he spoke to Inter manager Simone Inzaghi after the win over Sassuolo, who emphasized to him the importance of freshening up his team using substitutions.

Inzaghi made a bold statement when he used all but one of the substitutions available to him early in the second half against the Nerazzurri, but his idea worked, with his team going from looking tired and getting outplayed to quickly finding the right solutions to overhaul the deficit and see out the match.

For Vieri, this shows the significance of being able to rely on many top players, with options who can be called on from the bench should the players in the starting even prove to be too fatigued to cope with the game.

“I met with Inzaghi and he told me they were tired, they always play,” he explained. “They won the game because he has substitutions, he has a deep bench this year. If you put certain players in, you win the game, because you have more quality.”

He continued, “Five changes are half a team. It’s a great luck to have them. Dzeko came in and changed the game. Not all teams have these players. The only doubt about Dzeko is that he can’t always play, but if he does he is strong, he makes everyone play well.”
