Former Inter President Massimo Moratti believes that the Nerazzurri could possibly have won the treble in 2010 had Zlatan Ibrahimovic stayed on with the club.

Speaking to Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport in yesterday’s print edition to wish the current AC Milan striker a happy fortieth birthday, Moratti expressed the view that the Swede could well have won the treble with the Nerazzurri had he stayed.

Moratti expressed his respect and gratitude for Ibrahimovic’s contributions to the club upon joining from Juventus in the summer of 2006, wherein he established a strong reputation as an Inter player.

Ibrahimovic moved to Barcelona in the summer of 2009 in a blockbuster deal which saw Samuel Eto’o come the other way, and in the next season the Nerazzurri won the historic treble.

Ibrahimovic, meanwhile, went on to play for the likes of AC Milan, Paris Saint-Germain, Manchester United, and LA Galaxy, before returning to Serie A where he is once again an important player for the Rossoneri.

Moratti stated, “I wish him all the best with affection and respect. It’s true, when Ibra left we won the treble, but who can say that we wouldn’t have won with him too? Mr. Ibrahimovic gave us a lot, he helped us win three league titles, I am very fond of Zlatan. From me, for all his class and personality, may he play for another ten years until he’s fifty.”
