Inter defender Milan Skriniar believes that Croatia are the favourites to qualify for the World Cup top of the group containing his Slovak team.

Speaking from the Slovak team retreat, as reported by FCInterNews, the 26-year-old sated that Slovakia must aim to get the better of Russia in their match in order to try and overtake the Russian side in the qualifying table.

Skriniar and the Slovakian team sit four points behind both Croatia and Russia, with the Slovak team having nine points while the joint group leaders each have thirteen.

Skriniar backs two of his Nerazzurri teammates in the form of Ivan Perisic and Marcelo Brozovic to finish top of the group with Croatia, while he also projected confidence ahead of their crucial head-to-head match away to Russia on Friday, in which they could look to close the gap and keep themselves in contention to qualify for the finals in Qatar in 2022.

“I think the Croatians are clearly favorites in this group and they will do everything to finish first,” he said. “We have to manage the match in Russia, it’s fundamental.

“Then in the other matches we can try to overtake them. From today on we will be preparing tactically for Friday’s match.”
