Inter captain Samir Handanovic could remain at the club beyond next summer even if Andre Onana is brought in from Ajax.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Nerazzurri could look to keep the Slovenian on beyond the expiration of his current contract next summer, and that he could stay as backup to Onana.

Inter are reportedly ready to bring in Onana on a free transfer and will make his arrival on a free transfer next summer official as soon as it is possible to do so, with the Cameroonian their chosen long-term successor to Handanovic.

The Slovnian turns 38 next summer and will not hold down the role of first-choice keeper much longer having been undisputed in the position since his arrival from Udinese in the summer of 2018.

However, he could still have a role at the club, and could stay on as backup to Onana as the Cameroonian is integrated into the squad.
