Chilean national team head coach Martin Lasarte sees the lack of playing time for Alexis Sanchez at Inter this season as a problem but will still rely on the 32-year-old for important World Cup qualifying matches.

Speaking in a press conference, as reported by FCInterNews, the Roja boss explained that he is disappointed that Sanchez has not found more opportunities to gain match fitness playing for his club.

Sanchez returned from injury a few weeks ago, with a calf problem having sidelined him for much of the summer and for the start of the season.

However, he has only featured sporadically for the Nerazzurri since his return, with coach Simone Inzaghi not considering him to be a first-choice attacking option and only playing him from the bench.

The player signalled his frustration with the situation in a social media outburst, and Lasarte is not pleased with it either, but Sanchez is still an important player in the Roja setup.

“We all know him,” Lasarte said. “Although he is fit, the few minutes he has played lately [for Inter] represent a problem. He’s coming back from an injury; if he had had more continuity, there would have been no problems. I think we need Alexis, Alexis too.”
