Inter have begun contract extension talks with midfielder Nicolo Barella, and would like to have the securing of his future wrapped up soon.

This according to Sky Sport Italia transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, who reported live on the broadcaster that the Nerazzurri are working on an extension for the 24-year-old.

Barella’s current deal is set to run out at the end of June 2024, but the Nerazzurri would like to extend him beyond this as he is seen as an important player who the club wish to build around for the long-term future.

To this end, it has been expected that the player would be offered a new deal which would take him beyond the summer of 2024, and would also reflect his status as a key player at the club with increased wages.

Di Marzio confirmed that the process of negotiating a new deal with the midfielder is now underway on Sky, stating that “[Barella] is a midfielder admired all over the world and it is no coincidence that Inter have started talking to him about the renewal of his contract.”
