Inter and AC Milan are hoping to get approval on the construction of a new stadium to take the place of the San Siro by the end of the year.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who report that the Milan clubs are waiting for the project to move forward and would like the OK from the City Council some time in 2021.

With the Milan municipal elections finished, the new City Council is in place and there will be more clarity on the future of the new San Siro project.

Re-elected Mayor Beppe Sala has already commented that he is in contact with the Milan clubs about resuming the project now that the composition of the new City Council is known, and the clubs will hope that the project can be accelerated soon.

Once approval is given for the project, the architectural designer for the stadium will have to be chosen, with design firm Populous the likely candidates.
