Former Inter and Italy defender Marco Materazzi has spoken in glowing terms about the current Inter squad and what they can achieve, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Speaking to TMW whilst at a design event in Milan, Marco Materazzi explained that Simone Inzaghi is adapting to a new set of players such as Edin Dzeko, and that Serie A is incredibly competitive this season.

“Inzaghi is adapting to different players like Dzeko, who makes the team play more. In fact you risk a little more in defence, but the important thing is to be up there in the standings.

“This year there are five or six very strong teams , there is Napoli that is doing very well, AC Milan and Juventus that never dies, you will see that they will arrive too.

“It is a strong team that is worthy of being Italian champions. It can do great things.”

Speaking specifically about Edin Dzeko, Marco Materazzi explained that age does not matter anymore because athletes are so much more professional than they used to be.

“He has always scored his goals over the years. I hope he continues to do what he is doing. Age does not matter today, there are athletes with different mentalities from those of the past.”

When talking about Inter’s current defenders, Marco Materazzi said that Milan Skriniar has picked up his form very well after a slight decline during his time at the club.

“He has been doing well for two years already, I think he had a decline in the second or third year at Inter, but the grades are recovering as he is recovering.”

Finally whilst speaking about Alessandro Bastoni, Marco Materazzi said that he has known the young defender for many years and he is developing extremely well in comparison to others.

“I know him, he’s a great guy and he’s the one who has grown the most as a defender in recent years.”
