Inter defender Milan Skriniar has been speaking openly about the tough task that his national side will face against Russia this evening, according to a report in the Italian media.

Speaking during a pre-match press conference, as has been reported by FcINternews, Milan Skriniar explained that Slovakia need to recreate the performance they put in when they last played Russia on home soil.

In that game back in March 2021, Milan Skriniar opened the scoring and his team ended up winning the contest in Trnava 2-1.

“Even after the game in Trnava, we had, as they say, the knife aimed at the throat. We just had to manage the pressure, this situation helped us: I was happy to have scored in the first leg against Russia after a good performance.”

He is now very aware that given this evenings game will be in Kazan in front of Russian supporters, they will need to make sure everything goes right if they are to win.

“We will have to do a similar performance now, if not even better, we must give 200%.”

Slovakia are now four points behind Russia in Group H of the World Cup qualifying campaign, and Russia occupies the second and final qualification spot with Croatia in first.

That means it is vital that Slovakia take all three points.
