Legendary former striker Antonio Cassano believes that Inter and major rivals are considered favourites for the Scudetto, but that Napoli are the strongest contenders right now.
Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the 39-year-old praised the Partenopei and suggested that they are the team who can pip Inter and Juventus to the Serie A title at this moment in time.
Last season Inter managed to win their first Scudetto in eleven years, while the Bianconeri were the team that they dethroned after an unprecedented nine year run of Serie A titles.
At the beginning of the season, the two clubs were among those most strongly pipped to go all the way for the Serie A title, but after seven matches the two top stops are occupied by Inter’s city rivals AC Milan and perfect starters Napoli, and for Cassano it is the Partenopei in particular whose early season form shows that they are strong enough to beat out their more vaunted rivals.
“The favourites are inevitably Juventus and Inter,” he said, “the Nerazzurri won last year and start on pace to repeat the success, but if I have to say a new name I would go with Napoli, who started very well and are doing well with Spalletti. Behind those I mentioned I put Milan, Roma and Lazio.”
