Former Fiornetina, Sampdoria, and AC Milan coach Vincenzo Montella believes that Serie A table toppers Napoli are the favourites for the Scudetto but that Inter are right alongside them.
Speaking to Milan-based newspaper Gazetta dello Sport in an interview published in today’s print edition, the Italian tactician gave the view that the Nerazzurri are a team who can improve from their early season form.
Inter have enjoyed a strong start to the Serie A season, winning five matches and drawing two without suffering a single defeat, but this has not been enough to see them lead in the table.
City rivals AC Milan are two points ahead of the Nerazzurri, while perfect starters Napoli sit four points ahead of them with former Inter coach Luciano Spalletti having the Partenopei flying high.
Montella believes that Napoli have enough strength to keep their strong start going all the way to the Serie A title, but also believes that the Nerazzurri can get even better and challenge them.
“Let’s not say it because Luciano gets angry,” he joked, “but Napoli is a serious candidate. Together with Inter, who are right in it and have room to grow.”
