Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal was in a confident mood after Chile defeated Paraguay 2-0 in last night’s World Cup qualifier.

Speaking to Chilean broadcaster TNT Sports after the match, the 34-year-old stated that the Roja were proving their critics wrong after a strong performance which saw them get the result they were desperate for.

Chile’s qualifying campaign for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar has not been going according to plan so far, but their victory last night breathed some life into their efforts to reach the tournament.

Vidal is happy to have gotten the vital win, and he isn’t bothered by suggestions that the team are struggling and instead feels that the team have responded to their critics with their performance on the pitch.

The Nerazzurri man was happy to encourage continued criticism if it means that he and his teammates can show that the negative views are misguided with their performances.

“Today we were focused as never before,” he said, “we played an almost perfect match and in the end we managed to bring home the three points. We were good, motivated and happy.”

He went on, “To all those who talk, keep saying that we will be out of the World Cup – you are just chattering. If they speak in this way, we will win and we we will qualify for the World Cup.”

“I am happy because we won,” the midfielder concluded. “In the first half the ball did not want to go in, and finally in the second half we managed to score two goals. We did a good job. A very good match, it was intense for us. We needed this and we are very happy about it.”
