Former Inter striker Romelu Lukaku believes that during his time with the Nerazzurri he had acquired a winning mentality.

Speaking to his current Chelsea’s official social media channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the Belgian stated that he has yet to get into the same rhythm of success with the Blues, but expressed confidence that he would be able to.

Lukaku grew into a key player at Inter during his two seasons in Serie A, forming a strong relationship with coach Antonio Conte and the rest of the squad and becoming decisive in his contributions in attack.

The Belgian led Serie A in joint goals and assists last season as he led the Nerazzurri to their first Scudetto in eleven years and won praise for his performances.

The striker doesn’t believe that he has yet gotten back to the same level at Chelsea despite his club sitting on top of the Premier League table, but he anticipates that he will as he gets more settled in.

“I knew I would improve as a player,” the Belgian stated, “so my return to Chelsea was only a matter of time. I had two opportunities to return, in 2016 and 2017, but it didn’t happen for various reasons.”

He continued, “In the end it happened because it’s now the the right time, I’m the right age, the team is doing well and everything is in place for us to be successful.”

He reflected on his development, “Now I am much calmer. I have matured with fatherhood and I am more relaxed. In Italy [with Inter] I won and understood what it takes to achieve victory, this helped me really. Over the past three years, I’ve been able to build something that can serve me for the rest of my career.”

“It can be tricky,” Lukaku went on, “but when you really get it into your head to do something and really dedicate everything you have to that goal, you can achieve it. I recognized my better qualities and my talent, but I also knew what I wasn’t good at and spent a lot of time working on those skills to become more complete.”
