Lazio defender Stefan Radu had been a summer target of Inter and specifically of Simone Inzaghi but the Romanian decided that he wanted to remain with the Biancocelesti.

This according to his agent Matteo Materazzi, speaking to Radio Incontro Olympia as reported by FCInterNews, who stated that it was the 34-year-old’s choice to remain in the Italian capital rather than follow Inzaghi to Inter.

When Inzaghi joined Inter from Lazio in the summer he looked to Radu as a potential signing who could be a reliable defensive reinforcement, given that the pair had several seasons of experience working together and the defender knew his system and approach.

The Romanian’s contract was set to expire during the summer and he could have come in as a free transfer had he declined the Biancocelesti’s offer of an extension.

In the end Radu considered the Nerazzurri’s interest but decided to stay with his current club where he has been playing his football for more than a decade.

“That Simone wanted him at Inter is an open secret,” Materazzi stated of Radu. “Stefan had several offers on the table, being a player on an expiring deal, including that of the Nerazzurri. Radu chose with his heart, so he stayed with Lazio.”
