Former Inter and Lazio goalkeeper believes that Nerazzurri coach Simone Inzaghi will receive applause when his two former clubs meet at the Stadio Olimpico on Saturday.
Speaking to Italian broadcaster Radio Radio, the 57-year-old gave the view that the 45-year-old’s achievements with the Biancocelesti will be recognized by the fans and that he will get a respectful ovation.
Inzaghi spent more than two decades with the Biancocelesti, first as a player and then as a coach, but ended his association when he left to take over as Inter head coach following more than five years in charge of Lazio’s senior team.
The Italian tactician sought a new challenge after having brought success in the Coppa Italia and qualification for the Champions League to Lazio, and the manner of his departure caused some controversy especially with Lazio President Claudio Lotito.
However, Ballotta is of the view that the fans will still appreciate what he did for the Biancocelesti and will receive him warmly.
“I think that after twenty years he will be greeted with applause,” he stated. “Taking on a new challenge is normal. It is right that he should be well received.”
He went on of the match, “There are three points that are vital for both – Inter to stay at the top, while Lazio to redeem themselves following defeat against Bologna. In addition there can be a lot of controversy afterwards, it is better to work in a quiet environment.”
