The rumoured attempt at a takeover of Inter by the Saudi sovereign wealth fund the PIF would potentially concern not just the club but also the stadium the San Siro.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Libero, who report that the PIF would want to construct a new stadium to increase revenues, and detail the present situation around the proposal to build a replacement for the San Siro.

The PIF’s attempt to buy the Nerazzurri have reportedly taken a big step forward, with an agreement close with current owners Suning according to Libero.

Should the Saudi fund purchase the club from Suning then they would not only be concerned with taking over the club but also with the infrastructure and would see investing in a new stadium as vital to their project.

At the moment, the situation of the proposed new stadium remains up in the air, with newly re-elected Milan Mayor Beppe Sala preferring to keep the old San Siro over a new stadium according to Libero.

Italian National Olympic Committee President Giovanni Malago has pushed for clarity on the situation, with the city of Milan set to take part in hosting the 2026 Olympic summer games.

The opening ceremony for the games is set to take place at the San Siro, but what other facilities will be in the city of Milan remains up in the air as Inter and AC Milan work to build a new stadium with the timeline unclear.

The situation must be resolved to ensure that the Olympic Committee can have the right facilities and that they not be under construction by the time of the games.

At any rate, the intentions of prospective new owners the PIF would be clear and they would want to immediately focus on building a new stadium.
