A former Slovakia head coach has offered constructive criticism to Inter defender Milan Skriniar following a disappointing international break for the country, according to a report in the Italian media today.

Whilst speaking to Sport, as has been reported by FcINternews, Jan Kocian explained that the legacy of ex-Liverpool and Slovakia defender Martin Skrtel can be picked up Milan Skriniar as long as he starts to speak up more in games.

“Martin Škrtel had natural authority and was an aid to the coach. This figure, at the moment, is missing.

“It will probably be Škriniar’s turn. He has natural leadership, but he must also raise his voice. Then I don’t know the team or the character of the various players.”

Milan Skriniar has developed immensely as a footballer over the last two seasons and is now regarded as one of the top centre-backs in Europe.

He is a key part of Simone Inzaghi’s set up along with Stefan de Vrij and Alessandro Bastoni, but his Slovakia team did not fare well over the last two weeks.

Their chances of qualifying for the 2022 Qatar World Cup are now gone after defeat to Russia and a draw with Croatia, the two teams ahead of them in the group.
