Fiorentina President Rocco Commisso has suggested that Inter broke financial rules last season but have gone unpunished, according to a report in the American print media today.

Speaking during an interview with the Financial Times, Rocco Commisso explained how football clubs have to provide financial data every six months which is checked to make sure they are being run responsibly.

Whilst being sure to mention that his affairs are in order, Rocco Commisso suggested that Inter were breaking the rules in this way but still won Serie A without being punished.

“Every six months we must provide data on the liquidity ratio in Italian football. We and other clubs did it. I have always done my duty: I put the money, the club has no debt, so if there is a need for capital, I bring it from the United States.

“Other clubs did not. There were some clubs that were far from meeting the necessary liquidity requirements. And one of them won the championship.

“The problem in Italy is that the rules do not apply to everyone. And this distorted the final standings of the last Serie A championship.”

The Fiorentina man then stated that this is the reason why the club had to sell Achraf Hakimi and Romelu Lukaku in the summer in order to make their finances legal again.

“They subsequently had to rectify the cash ratio by selling players like Lukaku and Hakimi. This is after the end of the championship and not before.

“Anyone who does not respect the rules established by the League should pay the consequences, such as being penalized in the league.

Rocco Commisso then made a call for the financial regulation rules in Italian football to be made much stricter and more fairly applied across all twenty teams in the division.

“I think the Fiorentina fans are in favour of my proposals that everyone must respect the rules. I think about what happens in some European clubs, where the revenues are made to disappear in order to be able to say to respect the rules.

“I am very strict about it, if there are any rules, they must be respected. If they are not respected, sanctions must be envisaged.”
