An Italian journalist has suggested that this will be a key week for Simone Inzaghi in his time in charge of Inter, according to a report in the Italian broadcast media today.

Whilst speaking on Sky Sport, Matteo Marani suggested that up to this point Inter have essentially still been Antonio Conte’s team but the upcoming schedule will really test the new coach.

Inter will be facing Lazio at the weekend, followed by a crucial Champions League fixture against FC Sheriff, and then have to face Juventus at San Siro.

“At this point, Inzaghi’s work must be consecrated: he entered Inter very well, but he arrived by accepting Conte’s work. In this first phase it is the perfect combo, but this week here he has to tell us how much Inzaghi’s Inter is really worth.

“They are delicate games, from the two in the championship to the one in the Champions League. This Inter compared to the summer scenario is much further ahead: there was talk of catastrophic things, with players away and Inter that had to disappear.

“Instead, it is in line with a high-level championship and now it must give continuity: the decisive men besides Barella are in attack, where Inter have the players who can lead them.”

There was also some discussion given to the job that Beppe Marotta and Piero Ausilio did in the summer to steady the team and create a squad that can still compete at the top of the table in Italy.

“The project is being carried out by Marotta and Ausilio, with a great summer job to replace the farewells.”

Finally, Matteo Marani suggested that Suning are not going to financing the club in the same way they have been in the past.

“On the Suning-Zhang affair it seems clear to me that the extraordinary contribution that was given in the past is no longer there: we are in self-management carried out in an excellent way.

“What the management did in the absence of the owner is worth noting. Having said that, the loan granted by Oaktree reminds me a lot of Elliott’s story with Milan.”
