Inter midfielder Nicolo Barella is expected to agree on a new contract with the club in the very near future to reflect his importance to the team, according to a report in the Italian media today.

As has been reported by La Gazzetta dello Sport, the club and the player both want to reach an agreement soon and formal talks will begin in the near future.

The midfielder is likely to want a deal that will see him earn €5 million a season and keep him with the Nerazzurri until 2026.

That figure is not far from what Inter would like to offer him but they will assumedly make their initial offer beneath that figure.

A new contract will reflect his importance to the team which has increased drastically since he joined the club. It is also shown by the very credible rumours that he may be given the captaincy of the team soon.
