Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi believes that his team must learn to be more clinical after a tough loss against Lazio which saw them give up a 1-0 lead to lose 3-1.

Speaking to Inter TV after the match, the 45-year-old rued his side’s inability to kill off the game when they looked to be more comfortable, having lost control and the match in the second half.

Inter took an early lead through an Ivan Perisic penalty, and they looked to be restricting the formidable threat posed by the Biancocelesti as they defended their lead up to around the hour mark.

After a penalty was awarded to Lazio for an Alessandro Bastoni handball in the box, the complexion of the game changed and it was Maurizio Sarri’s side who looked like they had the composure and quality to take the three points from the match.

For Inzaghi, however, the real regret is that his side were not able to get the result wrapped up during the period where they looked to be the more confident of the two teams.

Of the controversial incidents he stated, “We have all seen them. We are very sorry for the result, we feel upset, but for sixty minutes we would have deserved more. We had to be better at killing the game off with a second goal. For an hour we did very well, the best away game so far.”

On the incident surrounding the second Lazio goal he said, “The referee couldn’t stop it, they decided to play on and bad luck dictated that the goal would come. If it’s not a blow to the head, the referee cannot stop it.”

“First defeat in the league, it hurts,” the coach reflected, we will have to analyze it well. We hope to catch up against Juve already.”

He concluded, “Now we head to the Champions League, on Tuesday we have an obligation to play a good match.”
