Legendary former Roma and Juventus midfielder Zbigniew Boniek believes that there was nothing wrong with the second goal scored by Lazio against Inter in the Serie A clash between the two yesterday.

The former Polish international and current UEFA Vice-President gave his thoughts on the incident in a tweet where he argues that there is nothing to be considered controversial about the goal.

Inter defender Federico Dimarco had gone down following a heavy challenge by Lazio midfielder Lucas Leiva but the ball had broken to the Nerazzurri so the referee waved play on.

Lautaro Martinez’s tame effort was collected by Biancocelesti goalkeeper Pepe Reina who quickly released his team on the counterattack, with the ball being played past Dimarco who was still on the ground recovering from the challenge.

Felipe Anderson finished off the move for what proved to be the winning goal, but the Inter players were visibly upset that the ball hadn’t been put out of play.

Boniek, however, believes there was no problem, writing “Second Lazio goal? Zero disputes, you play until the referee blows the whistle.”
