Inter must put the defeat against Lazio over the weekend when they face Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who argue that the Nerazzurri’s fragilities were on full display in their defeat against the Biancocelesti and that they must show better in their crucial Champions League clash.

The newspaper compares the Nerazzurri’s start this season under Simone Inzaghi to last season’s under Antonio Conte, noting that in terms of points and of goals scored and conceded the team are actually better off than they had been at this stage under Conte.

However, similar problems appear in the team, who have been unable to really convince for ninety minutes especially in the most important games.

The defeat at the Stadio Olimpico underlined a vulnerability to counter-attacks and the lack of an ability to control the tempo of games against strong opposition.

Similar faults had shown themselves in Conte’s Inter early on in last season, but the Italian tactician worked on them and made adjustments, with a win over Sassuolo proving to be a kind of turning point where they showed the winning style of play which carried them to the Scudetto.

This time around Inzaghi must do similar, coming back from a loss against Lazio which exposed his team’s lack of balance and mental strength.

The clash with Sheriff at the San Siro could represent a perfect opportunity to show strength in the face of a difficult challenge, as the match is virtually must-win for the Nerazzurri’s hopes for qualification to the knockout rounds of the Champions League.

The Moldovan side have already gotten two significant wins in the group, while Inter have only managed a solitary point, and they must show against their opponents for tomorrow that they can convince when they need to.
