Italian journalist Mario Sconcerti feels that the significance of the second goal scored by Lazio against Inter in the match between the two at the Stadio Olimpico has been overstated.

Speaking to Italian news outlet Calciomercato.com, Sconcerti gave the view that there has been too much talk about the controversy around the goal and that there should be little to make a significant matter out of.

Inter had their unbeaten start to the season ended by the Biancocelesti’s comeback win on Saturday, with Maurizio Sarri’s men reversing an early Inter lead to win the match 3-1.

However, the talking points for the match have often had less to do with the score than with the fractious nature of the match, especially the second half.

Inter players had been visibly upset that the Biancocelesti had not put the ball out of play given that Federico Dimarco was on the ground recovering from a heavy challenge, but in Sconcerti’s view this was not an issue at all.

“I’m amazed that there is so much talk about it,” he said of the incident. “There is a regulation and it must be applied, period. Only the referee can stop the game.”
