Inter will face a tough opponent tomorrow when they host Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League, but also a team over whom they have a massive financial advantage.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who brand the clash “David against Goliath” in financial terms and note that the total value of Inter’s squad is around 44 times that of the Moldovan team.

Sheriff have not looked to have any problems overcoming richer opponents so far, with a shock win against Real Madrid at the Bernabeu capping off their impressive run which has seen them qualify for Europe’s top competition for the first time and now top their group.

The Nerazzurri will know that they must have complete respect for their opponents, but also will face pressure to show their quality against a side who are comparatively financial minnows.

To illustrate the point, the Nerazzurri’s highest earner is Alexis Sanchez whose salary is a net of €7 million per season, which would be enough to pay the entire Sheriff squad.
