Antonio Cassano: “Inter Defender Alessandro Bastoni Is Going Through A Difficult Period”

Legendary former striker Antonio Cassano believes that Nerazzurri defender Alessandro Bastoni is going through a patch of bad form at the moment.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel, as reported by FCInterNews, the 39-year-old suggested that Inter have looked shaky and singled out the defender as having been going through a difficult period.

Bastoni earned praise for his displays over the past two seasons as the young defender established himself as a regular starter under coach Antonio Conte, forming part of the regular back three that won the Scudetto last campaign.

However, at the start of this season he has not always looked at the same level in his displays as he has had a hard time adjusting to life under new coach Simone Inzaghi, and the sloppy handball to give away the penalty from which Lazio equalized on Saturday underlined some of his recent struggles.

Cassano explained his view that this is part of the broader problem of Inter having trouble adjusting, stating that “Inter had many difficulties playing in a particular way – it is true that Correa and Lautaro returned the day before, but at least one of the two could have had a run-out.”

“Bastoni in particular is having a difficult period. Inter play in a different way than when they were under Conte, Felipe Anderson had fun at their expense in one-on-one situations,” he went on.

“I didn’t like the wards either,” the former striker continued. “I had the impression that Inter went there to take home a point and I didn’t like that. I didn’t like the management of the game and the players, the substitutions, absolutely nothing.”

Of the controversy around Lazio’s second goal he stated, “Dimarco was getting up when Lautaro was taking a shot, then he threw himself back on the ground. If Inter had scored Dimarco would have gone to cheer under the Curva. I would have put that ball out.”
