Former Inter striker Nicola Ventola believes that while Lazio’s second goal against Inter on Saturday was not against any rules, it was unusual as a breach of etiquette.

Speaking on Christian Vieri’s Twitch channel as reported by FCInterNews, the 43-year-old gave the view that in most situations the team with the ball would have put it out of play when an opponent was down with an apparent injury.

Lazio scored their second goal, which proved to be the winner, late in the second half at the Stadio Olimpico, but the Inter players were visibly upset that they had played past defender Federico Dimarco, who appeared to be down hurt, in the buildup.

Dimarco was on the ground recovering from a heavy challenge while Lazio winger Felipe Anderson carried the ball forward on a quick counterattack, and Ventola believes that in most situations the player with the ball would have put it out of play.

Of the match as a whole he stated, “In my opinion, Inter dominated the game until Lazio equalized. Even at 1-1 I had more of a feeling that they could score the second. Lazio showed flashes of individual quality. Inter did not shoot much but dominated, for me they were clearly superior to Lazio for sixty minutes.”

“Then that episode happened and from there the game was something else,” he stated, “I don’t keep track anymore. Beyond the refereeing rule, the Lazio players passed in front of a player on the ground, 90% of the time a player puts the ball out there.”
