Inter CEO Beppe Marotta expects contract talks with key players Marcelo Brozovic, Nicolo Barella, and Lautaro Martinez to go fine as all three players are committed to staying with the Nerazzurri.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster Sky Sport Italia prior to the Nerazzurri’s Champions League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol, the executive provided updates on the situations of the three players, as well as giving his thoughts on the importance of the match.

Inter will hope that an agreement can swiftly be found with Brozovic in particular, with the midfielder a vital part of the squad and with his current deal set to expire at the end of June 2022.

Martinez and Barella are two other major players who are seen as a major part of the club’s future and whose contracts the club are hoping to extend to reflect this.

Marotta began by speaking about the match against Sheriff and made clear that it was an extremely significant one for the team.

“In the Champions League all matches are decisive, we must always try to get points,” he stated, “tonight it is important, the opponent is difficult but their path was unexpected. We must have the strength and the right motivation to win.”

“Saturday’s game is a story in itself,” he went on, “we have to see the progress of the past months – we always behaved well, we had it in our hands until the sixtieth minute, we didn’t manage the final minutes well. We must look forward with great optimism, and we must not let go of the intensity and the characteristics we must have.”

Of Brozovic he stated, “The renewal issue does not represent a problem. Only the players who want to stay with us must remain at Inter. Brozovic expressed this desire like Lautaro and Barella – the whole squad deserves a commendation.”

“Over the next few weeks,” he continued Ausilio and I will meet with his agent about it.”

And on whether the Nerazzurri making signings in January would be contingent on Champions League knockout round qualification he said, “That’s not what affects us, it doesn’t change our strategy.”

“If January doesn’t offer many possibilities,” he went on, “we need to consolidate the squad that deserved the Scudetto and this year has started the league season well. We have to seize the opportunities of the market, but they are not always there.”
