Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi believes that his team have shown that they belong in the Champions League with their win against Sheriff Tiraspol yesterday, even if there are still issues they need to work on.

Speaking in a press conference after the match, as reported by FCInterNews, the Nerazzurri boss gave the view that the team must still improve their defense but that they are strong enough in attack to be a top side.

Inter scored three goals against Sheriff, a number which doesn’t flatter their attacking display at all, with the team breaking down Sheriff and creating a number of good chances throughout the match.

The goal conceded will be a concern, and is a fair reflection of the Moldovans’ efforts on the counterattack, but the Nerazzurri coach knows that he can work on this with the team and improve as they go forward both domestically and in Europe.

Of the match, Inzaghi stated that “let’s not forget that we were playing against a team that beat Real and Shakhtar, two strong teams that we know having faced them.”

“We knew the difficulties we were going to face,” he went well, “we were good, we created 18-19 shots of which nine were on target with three hitting the frame of the goal. We did well, we know we still have to improve, we conceded counters that could be dangerous.”

Of the team’s efforts at defensive improvement, he stated, “You can train and you have to work, it’s not very easy in these conditions, considering the national teams and the many close matches. We have to improve that aspect, we have the best attack in Serie A, but we concede counterattacks and goals that can be avoided.”

And on midfielder Arturo Vidal’s strong performance and goal on his return to the team, the coach stated that “I think he deserved it. He trains in the best way, I’m happy with the goal and the performance, he deserved it.”

“Other players are also coming back and doing well,” he concluded. “I’m thinking of Gagliardini, Vecino in Rome, now Sensi, Calhanoglu will be back shortly, the South American strikers who have to get back to full fitness. It is important for a coach to have everyone available.”
