Inter coach Simone Inzaghi is happy with how his team played in a must-win Champions League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol.

Speaking to InterTV, the 45-year-old gave his immediate reaction to a match in which his team had won comfortably in the end after coming in under immense pressure to get the result and keep themselves in contention for the Champions League knockout stage.

A loss against Real Madrid and a goalless draw with Shakhtar Donetsk left the Nerazzurri on only a point heading into their clash with Sheriff, and they needed their first win to get a foothold in the group.

The team rose to the occasion and beat the Moldovans 3-1 to take them to their first win of the group stage.

Not only was the manager pleased with the crucial result, but he was also happy to see his team performing at a high level and creating many chances in a game that they knew they needed to win.

“We wanted to win at all costs, we made a mistake on a technical level but we created a lot,” he said of the match. “Nothing to say about the victory, thanks to the guys who had an excellent match.”

“We knew the importance of the match and the opponent,” he went on, “because you don’t win two matches against Real and Shakhtar by chance. But we did well and we are happy with the victory.”

Of Stefan de Vrij being the Nerazzurri’s twelfth goalscorer of the season the coach stated, “I am pleased, now players who were out are also returning and for me, it is positive. I will choose the best line-up every time.”

Noting that his team only scored three goals from 29 shots, Inzaghi stated that “That’s 45 between tonight and Real, that’s another aspect we need to improve on and we’ll try to do it in training.”
