Inter defender Stefan de Vrij is ready for the significant challenge of the head-to-head Serie A clash with Juventus at the San Siro on Sunday.

Speaking to Italian broadcaster SportMediaset, the Dutchman explained that he is happy to be back to winning ways after a 3-1 win in the must-win Champions League clash with Sheriff Tiraspol, but that he knows there are bigger challenges to come.

So far this season Inter have faced two direct rivals from last season’s top seven in Serie A, drawing with Atalanta and losing to Lazio, and they will know how important a good showing in the Derby d’Italia will be.

Juventus have steadied themselves after a poor start to the season, with four league wins on the bounce accompanied by two Champions League wins from two giving the impression that Max Allegri’s team have begun to recover just in time for their massive trip to the San Siro.

The Nerazzurri must be at their best if they want to get a result from their clash with the Biancocelesti, which could have a major impact on the season for both teams.

“There is still a long way to go,” de Vrij said after the Sheriff win, “we have to win the next one too. But we are happy with the victory and we want to keep winning.”

Of the clash with Sheriff he stated, “We knew it was a very important match despite everything that had happened. We also saw on the pitch that we wanted to win and we did it.”

On his goal against the Moldovans he said, “Of course it’s nice to score in the Champions League. An important goal, and in front of our fans.”

He concluded that “We know that the match against Juve will be very important. There will be two highly motivated teams, it will be a good match.”
