Inter midfielder Arturo Vidal is glad to have helped his team get back to winning ways with a vital win over Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League.

Speaking to InterTV after the match, the Chilean expressed his happiness to put the defeat against Lazio on the weekend behind them and gain a foothold in the Champions League group stage.

Inter came into the match against Sheriff knowing that a win was virtually necessary if the team were to avoid falling behind in the group, and they did so only days after tasting defeat in Serie A for the first time this season.

The Biancocelesti match was tough, but Simone Inzaghi’s men showed their determination as well as quality to overcome a Sheriff team who had beaten both Shakhtar Donetsk and Real Madrid this season.

The team performed in some style, and Vidal’s second-half strike proved to be the winning goal to get the Nerazzurri off the mark with a Champions League victory.

“It was a perfect night for us,” he stated, “we needed a win like this to gain confidence especially in view of Sunday’s match. We have to keep working, but this is important.”

Of his goal the Chilean stated, “I dedicate it to my daughter Elisabetta who watches me from Chile, I promised her. I did everything to score and to dedicate it to her. We want to go forward in the Champions League, we lost a very bad match against Lazio on Sunday. Today we had a good match that gives us confidence.”

And on the standing ovation he received, Vidal stated that “I’m pleased, they expect a lot from me for everything I’ve done in my career. I hope to do my best and win with Inter.”
