Inter midifleder Arturo Vidal rolled back the years and showed himself at top form with his display against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League yesterday evening, and in so doing he sent a message to former club Juventus.

This according to today’s print edition of Turin-based newspaper Tuttosport, who note that the Chilean’s impressive performance came in the last match before his side’s key head-to-head with the Bianconeri at the San Siro.

Vidal showed flashes in his first season at Inter, including opening the scoring in an important win over the Bianconeri as a highlight, but injuries and fitness problems prevented him from making the impact that was hoped for.

This season the 34-year-old has shown his quality in substitute appearances, and he was entrusted by coach Simone Inzaghi to start against Sheriff in a must-win match.

The midfielder repaid the coach’s faith with a goal and an assist to cap off a fine performance in which he looked close to his peak.

It remains to be seen whether the coach turns to Vidal for the match against Juventus, but the midfielder’s performance against Sheriff suggested that he can still come back to haunt his old club.
