Inter can likely expect to have the San Siro open at full capacity by the end of the year, given the projections for health regulations.

This according to Italian Undersecretary of Health Andrea Costa, who spoke to Italian broadcaster Sky TG 24 and suggested that the end of the year would be a correct timeline for when to expect stadiums to be open at 100% capacity.

Inter and all other Italian clubs had to play in front of empty stands for more than a full stadiums as the COVID-19 pandemic forced the closure of stadiums for public health reasons.

However, at the beginning of this campaign the wide availability of vaccines and positive epidemiological numbers meant that fans could return to stadiums, first at 50% and now at 100%.

Conditions continue to improve, and Costa gave the view that full reopening of stadiums should be able to be achieved by the end of the year, something the Nerazzurri will welcome as they seek the full support of home crowds as well as the revenue boost of ticket sales.

“I think it is reasonable to look at the end of the year as a time limit in which we can reach 100% for the capacities that have not yet reached this percentage,” Costa stated. “In our country we have basically reopened everything, we only have a limit on capacities in some sectors.”

He went on, “There is a positive fact – there is an increase even for the first doses, I believe that reaching 90% of vaccinations for those eligible is a goal that can be reached in a few weeks and certainly by the end of the year, it is a percentage that would allow us to manage things more simply and allow the country to return to normality.”
