Legendary former Juventus and Iner midfielder Marco Tardelli believes that the head-to-head clash between the two teams on Sunday will be more important for the Biancocelesti’s season.

Speaking to Italian news agency ADNKronos, the 67-year-old gave the view that Juventus have more to prove out of the two teams given their season so far.

Juventus head into their match at the San Siro in good form, having won their last four Serie A matches on the bounce in addition to two wins from two in the Champions League.

However, the Bianconeri still have some doubts raised by their poor start to the season, and will feel that a result against last season’s Scudetto winners would be a significant step in their recovery.

Inter, meanwhile, got back to winning ways in a key match against Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League after a disappointing defeat against Lazio in Serie A, and Tardelli feels that they have already shown their quality.

“I liked Inter last night,” he said, “they played good football and got a convincing victory over Sheriff. These were three fundamental points, as will be those up for grabs in the return leg in three weeks, because to progress from the group you have to win an away match and doing it in Moldova is much easier than against Real Madrid. If they repeat yesterday’s match they have a very good chance of succeeding.”

On the significance of Sunday’s match he stated, “It seems to me that in this first part of the season Inter were doing well, they have lost a couple of games and did not even deserve to lose so up to now Inzaghi’s work seems to me absolutely excellent.”

“The seven points behind leaders Napoli can be recovered and for sure the Nerazzurri will be in the running until the end for the title,” he went on.

Of the match against the Biancocelesti he said, “It matters more for Juventus, who are further behind. It is always the Derby d’Italia and a six-pointer. It will give important information on the trajectory of the season but not yet be definitive.”
