Sheriff Tiraspol coach Yuriy Vernydub is happy with how his team played in defeat against Inter yesterday, in spite of the result.

Speaking in a press conference as reported by FCInterNews, the Ukrainian tactician stated that his team had come up against an exceptionally strong side in the form of Inter and that they had fallen to defeat in spite of playing their game well.

Sheriff were not expected to have a good chance in their Champions League group as competition new boys against three established European teams in the form of Inter, Real Madrid, and Shakhtar Donetsk.

However, after two matches played they led the group with wins against Real and Shakhtar, and they headed into the San Siro confident with five points more than the Nerazzurri.

In the end Inter showed their quality to dispatch the Moldovan side 3-1 and gain a foothold in the group with their first win, but Vernydub is still happy with his team’s performance.

He characterized the clash as a “Nice game, we tried to play our football. We closed the first half under a lot of pressure, in the second I changed the formation a bit playing with five defenders. We equalized with a good goal but then we conceded two goals with one from a set piece.”

He went on, “Obviously I would have wanted something more, there were other good situations from which nothing materialized, but it is what it is. I’m grateful to my players for their dedication, they fought until the end. Of course, Inter is Inter. But I am very happy and proud of my players. Now we will prepare for the match in Tiraspol.”
